Founded in 1883, the University of Texas at Austin is the flagship university in the University of Texas system. It's enrollment for 2006 was 49,738 which made it the fifth largest university in terms of enrollment. The University is located in Austin, Tx. which also happens to be the state capital.
The University of Texas is regarded as one of the best public institutions often called a "Public-Ivy" school. The admission process is considered very selective and is considered very fair.
The University of Texas is ranked 9th nationally for undergraduate business schools in BusinessWeek and 18th overall by the Wall Street Journal. The University is also considered in many publications to be one of the best bargains and best buys within the scope of public colleges and universities.
Seven of its doctoral programs were rated in the top 10 on a national scale. The law school is highly rated among public law schools but unfortunately they do not have a medical school. The University has associate programs throughout other campuses and has the second rated dental school in the United States.
